چکیده
Here we present dense acoustic and swath bathymetry data sets as well geological age constraints that allow a new view on past glacial processes at the Siberian termination of Lomonosov Ridge in Arctic Ocean between 81° 84° 20′ N. Here, seabed is marked by three streamlined lineations observed water depths ~760 m to 1250 m. The shallower were likely formed during MIS 6 deeper ones 12. Other observations include recessional moraines pockmarks flattened ridge crest. In subsurface, an acoustically transparent unit above stratified strata interpreted subglacial diamicton overlying pre-glacial sediments erosional contact. Wave scattering by an ice sheet of variable thickness
This paper describes an investigation into the effect on wave propagation of an ice sheet of varying thickness floating on water of varying depth. A variational principle equivalent to the governing equations of linear theory in three dimensions is given, forming the basis of a Rayleigh-Ritz approximation. Here we invoke the mild-slope approximation in respect of the ice thickness and water dep...
متن کاملDeep-Water Flow over the Lomonosov Ridge in the Arctic Ocean
The Arctic Ocean likely impacts global climate through its effect on the rate of deep-water formation and the subsequent influence on global thermohaline circulation. Here, the renewal of the deep waters in the isolated Canadian Basin is quanitified. Using hydraulic theory and hydrographic observations, the authors calculate the magnitude of this renewal where circumstances have thus far preven...
متن کاملModeling sea ice thickness
In this paper, we present a self contained review on the modeling of sea ice thickness distribution. This is an important quantity arising and contributing to global climate changes. We present the various pde describing it, which are strongly non linear. Detailed mathematical analysis will be reported elsewhere. The utility of this quantity is of course to set up a global analysis of sea, ice ...
متن کاملSea-Ice Thickness Measurement:
Helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) induction systems provide a means to measure sea ice thickness along flight paths covering a large area in a short period of time, and make the data available in real-time for incorporation into operational ice charts. Ice surface elevation profiles are also collected with a laser altimeter contained in the system. With the introduction of the fix-mounted ...
